Hi! My name is Jenny Treen-Smith. I am a Speech and Language Therapist, and the owner and founder of Communicate.
"Hi! I'm a Speech and Language Therapist, parent coach and trainer, dedicated to help your child reach their true potential.
My specialism and love is for Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) which began when I was a child learning how to communicate with my non-speaking sister. I now believe that everyone has the right for autonomous communication, inclusion and access to reading and writing.
Collaboration with team members is essential to progress in all stages of communication growth through AAC.
I have a BA (Hons) Speech and Language Therapy, BSC (Hons) Sport science and Human Biology and a Postgraduate Certificate in Dysphagia (swallowing difficulties).
I qualified as a Speech and Language Therapist in 2004 from St Mark and St Johns, Plymouth. After qualifying I moved to Wiltshire to take a community clinic-based position for Wiltshire Community NHS Trust which then expanded to supporting preschool and school aged chidren with complex communication needs.
I spent 13 years supporting children aged 4-19 years within a Special Educational Needs (SEN) School working collaboratively with other agencies and teaching staff to implement Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), introducing inhouse training packages, setting up regular AAC and Dysphagia Clinics and being a valued part in the schools Communication Team.
The school gave me opportunities to use and understand a range of low and high tech commununication aids and work closely with the AAC specialist team in the West of England.
In 2006 I qualified as a regional Makaton tutor and have run bespoke and set training for a variety of organisations such as schools, preschools, dentists, and university students.
Since 2020 I started my independent practice to provide time and support for parents, and nothing makes me happier than seeing families develop and communicate.
In my work I bring fun, knowledge and experience to the child and their carers. Therapy is centered around the individual and their strengths while supporting the carers through new and, sometimes, tricky situations.
I maintain an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) clearance, Level 3 Safeguarding for children and young adults and hold a basic first aid certificate.
I am a registered member of the:
Health and Care Professional Council (HCPC): Regulatory body for speech and language therapists (SLTs) practising in the UK.
